DETAILED PROGRAM:
FRIDAY 19th JUNE 2009
Arrival day in Ibiza and allocation of lodgings at our base.
The tour begins with a three-beach hiking route along the stretch of coastline just north of our base. We'll visit Cala Nova, Cala Mastellá and Cala Llenya, admiring the natural treats and sandy beaches the area affords. At the end of the route we'll enjoy a session of Yoga to relax and de-stress ourselves.
In the evening, back at base, there will be a welcome gathering with dinner and a presentation from Ibiza's ecology and sustainable living initiative, Greenheart, detailing their role on the island and what their various projects consist of. Everyone in our group will receive an info pack including Greenheart's Guide to Ibiza and Formentera, plus guidelines on low-carbon living and respect for the environment. After dinner, we'll liven things up with a merry performance of Bhangra Dance by Shankara at our venue's groovy Café.
SATURDAY 20th JUNE 2009
We'll begin with visit to the top-value San Jordi market. This spacious open-air market is the island's best for bargains on clothes, shoes, bags, ceramics, jewelry and all types of bric-a-brac and second-hand items. The venue is a great meeting point where the island's residents get together in jovial spirits to sell their goods and meet their friends. No one leaves empty-handed!
Continuing along the road from San Jordi, we'll arrive at the superb Salinas beach, where one can experience the calm, clear waters and beautiful white sand stretch of this unspoilt, scenic area. We will provide an official guide to this national park, whose "Ses Salines" protected area stretches out to include the northern tip of Formentera. Relax, swim and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere from the famous Sa Trinxa beach bar/restaurant. Other nearby beach bars also offer food, or you can bring your own to picnic on the beach.
Later on we shall do our bit for the environment, with a fun beach clean and after-party. We'll be joined by members of Greenheart and other volunteers to clear the rubbish off the beach and surrounds, recycling where possible and leaving the zone looking lovely and natural once again. There'll then be a celebration of our hard work with a special beach picnic and party, raising the energies as we head into the summer solstice weekend...
SUNDAY 21st JUNE 2009: SUMMER SOLSTICE
The day will start with an optional healthy session of Pilates to get the body in shape for the day. There'll be time after to relax and enjoy the peace of our venue and its neighbouring sandy beach.
Gathering once again, we will continue our solstice celebration weekend with a special event blending artistic performances with ecological awareness at Greenheart's base, La Casita Verde, esteemed ecology centre, dedicated to studies and projects related to the environment.
Whilst there, we will take a tour of the whole centre, which is set in a beautiful valley near San José. There will be a chance to visit their Aloe vera plantations and discover how to make delicious, healthy drinks from this marvellous medicinal plant. The centre has many different areas demonstrating sustainable living methods with many features of interest, plus areas to relax and a kids' park for the youngsters.
There will be a delicious vegetarian lunch served, giving a taste of locally grown vegetables and organic produce, plus unique drinks from the bar, including local speciality carob coffees & milkshakes, aloe vera juices and carob cake. Delicious - and healthy too.
At this joyous time we will celebrate the summer solstice with a series of acoustic concerts, live performances and DJ entertainment. There will also be various green activities, film showings, visuals and workshops related to climate change, care of the planet and living more ecologically.
In addition you can take part in a diverse range of mind-body sessions in the healing area at the festival (Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Chi Kung, Bhangra dance, Biodance, massages - and more!
In the late afternoon we'll depart for the outstanding beaches of Cala Compta, for a refreshing dip and an explore of this gorgeous shoreline. The area is well-positioned for sundown for the solstice, and we'll lively things up into the evening with a percussion workshop, creating a rhythmic atmosphere for enjoying this most special of sunsets by the sea. Afterwards we'll continue into the night with a special party at a nearby beach bar, celebrating our time together and keeping our spirits high!
